After three drunken driving convictions, Haitham Gamal received a harsh sentence.
Gamal of Dana Point, gave up his car and began bicycling.
Unfortunately, the 38-year-old man died as a result of alcohol.
Police said that a 19-year-old man who was speeding and had been drinking, hit Gamal while he was riding his bicycle. Gamal was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred a day after Gamal pleaded guilty to a DUI in the Superior Court of Orange County. Detectives are awaiting the results of blood tests before filing charges against the suspect who killed Gamal.
The Acura flipped on its top after hitting Gamal, and the driver and his 18-year-old passenger were treated for head trauma at a hospital. The injuries are considered moderate. Gamal left behind his wife and young children.
